Nails Between Grooms: Why Quick Services Are Worth It

Hair gets all the attention at the groomer, but nails are the thing most owners put off. Dogs that don't wear them down on pavement can end up with nails that grow long, and a four-week grooming schedule might not be enough. That's where our Quick Services come in.

Why long nails matter

You've probably heard long nails click on a hardwood floor. That's the first sign. When nails get longer, they can catch on carpet and blankets, scratch floors, and scratch you. Some owners notice their dog sitting differently or walking with a changed gait. If you're curious whether long nails are affecting how your dog moves or feels, ask your vet. That's their call, not ours.

There's also the practical side: the longer a nail gets, the harder it is to trim back. Regular trims keep it manageable, and many dogs tolerate quick, frequent trims better than a rare, long one.

Nae B wrote on Google that her dog gets a deshedding treatment and a nail trim, and added: "I definitely don't miss getting scratched by her nails during car rides anymore!" Anyone who has had a big dog climb into their lap in the passenger seat will understand.

Nail Trim & File: $22.00

This is the basic visit: your dog's nails are trimmed and filed smooth, so there are no sharp edges left to snag or scratch. It's quick, it doesn't include a bath, and it fits easily between full appointments.

If your dog needs extra hands for nails, because they wriggle, pull away or are worried about having their feet touched, that's $30.00. That covers the added help a worried dog sometimes needs. Tell us what happens at home when you bring out the clippers, and we'll plan around it.

Paw Peddiecure: $30.00

The Paw Peddiecure is the nail trim plus a foot and pad hair trim. For dogs with fuzzy feet, it's a handy option. Hair between the pads can mat, pick up burrs and make smooth floors slippery. Trimming it keeps the foot tidy and the pads clear.

It's a good pick for doodles, poodles, spaniels, shih tzus, Bichons and anyone whose paws have more fur than they'd like. If you're also thinking about the face or the sanitary area, take a look at the combos below.

Other Quick Services

  • Face, feet and sanitary combo: $40.00
  • The same combo with nails added: $50.00

  • Ear hair plucking and cleaning: $18.00

Quick Services don't include a bath. If your dog needs to be washed, you'll want a Full-Service Bath, a Bath Plus+ or a Full Groom, and those already include a nail trim and file.

Walk-ins: weekdays, 8 to 4

Quick Services walk-ins are welcome from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday. The studio is closed Saturday and Sunday. Nobody needs to book a long appointment for a two-minute job. If you want to be sure we have the right hands available, especially for a nervous dog or a dog that needs extra hands, call ahead at 303-776-0332.

We're at 1130 Francis St in Longmont. Stop by after a morning walk or on your lunch break.

How often to come in

There's no single right answer, because nails grow at different speeds and dogs wear them down differently. A good rule of thumb is to listen: when you hear them on the floor, it's time. A simple rhythm is one quick nail visit between full grooming appointments.

  • Hear clicking on hard floors: book a Nail Trim & File.
  • Fuzzy feet that collect burrs or slip on floors: book a Paw Peddiecure.
  • Mid-cycle between full grooms: add a quick nail visit.
  • Bath day: nails are already included.

Walks on pavement wear nails down a little, but most dogs don't walk enough on hard ground to keep them short. Trimming at home is fine if you're comfortable with it. If you're not sure where to cut, ask your vet or a groomer to show you, because cutting too short hurts and can make a dog nervous about the whole thing.

If a nail splits, bleeds or your dog is limping, that's a trip to the vet, not the groomer.
